The PhD Council invites you for the General Meeting on June 15th at 16:15 at Kjerka, Domus Media.

The PhD Council of 2016 would like to thank our predecessors for their efforts and accomplishments. We hope to continue this work and invite PhD fellows to actively engage with us for the purpose of improving our working environment and well-being.

The PhD Council would with this newsletter like to inform about a couple of developments at the Faculty that could affect the PhD students in different ways. We would also like to ask for input if you have any in respect to the different topics.

The PhD Council invites PhD fellows, post docs and research assistants to share their research experiences, get to know one another and share some food and drinks – at Professorboligen Friday 25^th of September

Wednesday June 3 the PhD Council is organizing a combined general meeting, workshop and social get together for the PhD fellows and post-docs at the Faculty of Law. The workshop will take place from around 15.30, and dinner will be served from around 17. Professorboligen, Karl Johans Gate 47, has been booked for this event but exact time for accessing Stallen has not yet been confirmed.

Further details about the event will be distributed next week.

The PhD Council of 2015 would like to thank our predecessors for their efforts and accomplishments in 2014. Without their collective work, supported by their predecessors and the input and participation of the Faculty of Law’s PhD fellows, it would have been very hard for us to take on these new roles. We are privileged to maintain what has already been built up and honored with the task of promoting continued improvements for the PhD fellows at the Faculty.

Christmas is upon us, but before the new year arrives we would like to provide you with a little bit of information concerning our activities in the last few weeks.

A new PhD Council was elected at the general meeting of PhD Fellows ont he 29th of October 2014. Read on to see the composition of the PhD Council for 2015.

We were so happy to see that the general meeting on the 29th of October was a success. Thanks to all of you for coming out and discussing with us, and special thanks to those elected to serve on the next year's PhD Council.

Read on for information about the composition of the PhD Council in 2015, the topics that were discussed at the general meeting of PhD Fellows, and the Working Party that has been established to consider the requirements for admission to the PhD program.

The fall semester is well underway, and the PhD Council is pleased to bring you a newsletter filled with relevant news and announcements. Among the topics covered in this newsletter are details concerning teaching and subsequent extension of employment period for PhD fellows with 3 year contracts, a reminder concerning the upcoming general meeting of PhD fellows, and we also introduce a new member of the PhD Council.

The PhD Council has the pleasure of inviting you to our general meeting on Wednesday the 29th of October 18:00, in Kjerka (Domus Media). As last time, dinner (tapas) will be served, together with wine/beer/soda.

We will start the general meeting by presenting the PhD Council and the current topics on the Council's agenda. We will then open the floor for a general debate on issues relevant to PhD fellows. Feel free to send us suggestions for topics to discuss beforehand, or you may just bring them up during the general meeting. Among those topics are the mandatory PhD courses (A seminars), and the question of whether PostDocs should be invited to future general meetings and/or take part in the work of the PhD Council. Hopefully the discussions will be just as lively and fruitful as last time!

During the general meeting we will also elect next year's PhD council. Anyone who wishes to run for election are eligible - there is no need to register in advance. If you have any questions in this regard, or if you are already considering running for election, feel free to contact us on stip-rad@jus.uio.no.

Summer is approaching, but before the holiday season commences the PhD Council has some news we would like to share.

Thanks to all of you who attended our event last Wednesday, which included not only great food and an inspiring talk by Anine Kierulf, but also important debates. One of the outcomes of that debate was a need for information from the PhD Council concerning issues we are working on, while they are still in progress.

In other words: more information at an earlier stage, and preferably by e-mail. This newsletter, which has also been sent out through e-mail, is an effort towards meeting these demands.

The PhD Council has the pleasure of inviting you to an evening with tapas and wine - along with a meeting and debate with your fellow PhD candidates - on Wednesday the 14th of May 18:00, in Kjerka (Domus Media).

The debate will be chaired by Anine Kierulf (former PhD Fellow), who will lead an interactive debate on how to best convey your research and the life of a PhD Fellow at the faculty. After the debate, the PhD Council will hold a short general meeting, where we will discuss current cases before the Council. Please feel free to take up an issue or a case that you feel we need to discuss.

As said, tapas and wine will be served. We do hope that you have the opportunity to join us, as this will be an excellent opportunity to mingle with your fellow Fellows!

Wednesday May 14 the PhD Council is organizing a social get together for the PhD fellows at the Faculty of Law. The event will take place after work hours, and dinner will be served. There will also be a talk which, in order to include all PhD fellows, will be held in English. We hope to be able to use the newly refurbished "Professorboligen" (picture) for this event, although this has yet to be confirmed.

A new PhD Council was appointed this week. The new PhD Council wishes to thank our predecessors for their efforts in 2013, and look forward to carry the baton through 2014.

From now on out we will do our best to keep these web pages updated vis-a-vis their Norwegian counterparts. Older news articles etc. will not be translated.
