PhD and PostDoc breakfast club: From lab to lounge: disseminating research without becoming your own press release

Join us for an interactive session with Martín Hernán Di Marco on sharing research beyond academia and engaging the right audiences.

In this session titled “From Lab to Lounge: Disseminating Research Without Becoming Your Own Press Release,” Martín Hernán Di Marco will discuss the many pathways for disseminating academic research. The session will cover solo publications, engaging the right audiences, building networks and institutional collaborations, bridging the gap between research and practice, and navigating conferences. Drawing on lessons from his work on violence against women and epidemiology, Martín will share practical tips, real life experiences, and common pitfalls encountered along the way.

Martín Hernán Di Marco is a sociologist and epidemiologist. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Criminology and Sociology of Law (Domus Juridica), University of Oslo. He is currently Assistant Professor at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, where he studies violence and violence prevention. He has conducted extensive research on femicide and intimate partner violence in Latin America, with a particular focus on perpetrators’ narratives and their social contexts.

Later the same afternoon, Martín Hernán Di Marco will also participate in a panel discussion at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law (IKRS), University of Oslo, titled “Narratives of femicide perpetrators in Latin America.” The event will bring together experts from criminology and related fields to discuss a large scale narrative study exploring stories that foster lethal violence against women in intimate relationships in Latin America.
