In this interactive session titled “On Forming a Pedagogy and Establishing Professional Teaching Practice”, former PhD research fellow and researcher Ben Grafstrom will discuss with the audience how teaching often becomes an integral part of an academic career. For those of us pursuing doctoral degrees, teaching is likely to be a component of our professional lives; however, little to no time is typically allocated during doctoral training to learning about pedagogy or current trends in teaching methods and practices in higher education. While this session will not provide all the answers, it will offer participants an accessible and systematic way to approach teaching, along with practical tools for further developing their educational practice.
We are delighted to welcome Ben Grafstrom, a PhD Research Fellow studying the effects of demographic change on traditional folk culture in rural Japan. He has over 15 years of teaching experience, including two years as a high school teacher in the United States and ten years as a professor at Akita University in Akita, Japan.
More information about the speaker can be found here.
