PhD and Postdoc Breakfast Club: Research Integrity (Responsibilities and Conflict Resolution for Young Researchers)

This month in the PPBC: Join us to know what's at stake for young researchers, what responsibility do they have and how can disagreements and conflicts be resolved!

In this special edition of PhD and PostDoc Breakfast Club, we are pleased to present a talk on research integrity.

Prof. Knut Willem Ruyter will address how research integrity endeavors to uphold essential ethical norms, preserving the trustworthiness of research and its outcomes. "The University has the responsibility to establish ethical standards/principles, train researchers, and respond to threats or violations of good research practices. Young researchers have also a responsibility to uphold the integrity and can also be held accountable for breaches of standards, by taking account of research cultures, power relations, and international cooperation. To raise questions about lack of adherence to standards is not without risk for young researchers."

About Prof. Ruyter: Born under the harsh winter storms in Norway in 1955, Prof. Ruyter was educated in the US and joined UiO in 1989 as a PhD student at the Center for Medical Ethics. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Theology since 2001, with primary interests in ethics, bioethics, and research ethics. Since 2019, he has also served as the Science Ombud of the University of Oslo.

As a ritual, we ask that you register for the PPBC via the online form to help with catering expectations. We look forward to seeing you there!
