Collective bargaining - about affiliation to a basic collective agreement on state level in Norway

If you want to part of Akademikerne's basic collective agreement you need to ensure that you have a membership to one of our trade unions by 1 May 2022.

Two basic collective agreements on state level

Since 2016, there has been two basic collective agreements on state level. In the period 1 May 2022 to 30 April 2024 the basic collective agreements are organised like this:

  • One agreement between the state and Akademikerne and UNIO
  • One agreement between the state and LO and YS

The main rule in the state is that you as a member is part of the same basic collective agreement throughout the period it lasts.

This means that if you were a member of one of the trade unions under the Akademikerne umbrella 1 May 2022, you will be a part of the negotations on Akademikerne's basic collective agreement throught the period, even though you change to an union associated with LO or YS. The same applies if you were to end your membership to one of our trade unions and do not get a membership elsewhere.

Employees without an union membership

The Storting has decided that the employees without an union membership will be negotiated on the basic collective agreement that has the most members in each individual organisation. For employees without an union membership at UiO, this means that they will be negotiated on the basic collective agreement between the state and Akademikerne and UNIO.

If an employee without an union membership decide to be a member of an union, the membership will start from the time of registration.

Members who have two union memberships

Some employees have two union memberships across the basic collective agreements in the state. These members need to make a choice at the start of a new collective bargaining period regarding which basic collective agreement that want to be a part of the negotiation. The choice cannot be changed during the period the basic collective agreement lasts.
