Laura Gowing is a professor of early modern history at King’s College London. Her research focuses on women in early modern England. She examines how gender, sexuality, labour, and the body shaped women’s everyday lives in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. With some help from the miracles of the internet and video calls, we were able to have a conversation with Laura which spanned between the streets of London and the intimate spaces of domestic life to uncover new ways of understanding gender.
