The Norwegian Association of Researchers with new action plan for equality and diversity

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we are sharing NARs new action plan for equality and diversity. The action plan was adopted by the NAR Executive Board in 2024 and has just been published.

NAR will work at all levels to promote a non-discriminatory working environment characterized by equality, gender balance and diversity. Central to NARs work on equality and diversity is a desire for increased knowledge, diversity in recruitment processes, to improve gender balance, equalize pay differences and ensure career development based on equal treatment. Read more about the action plan here (only in Norwegian).

Increased knowledge is important for promoting equality and diversity

To promote equality and diversity, knowledge about how and why discrimination occurs is important.

Regarding equality and diversity at UiO, NARs local branch at UiO has advocated for more detailed statistics and reporting so that, for example, it is possible to compare salaries within each individual job category at UiO in terms of gender, ethnicity and nationality.

Among younger researchers at UiO, we know, for example, that the proportion of foreign nationals is high. Does this have an impact on salaries? Are there salary disparities between the foreign researchers and Norwegian researchers at UiO? What about salary disparities between foreign female researchers and foreign male researchers? Only with more detailed statistics, will it be possible to begin to address underlying causes of differences and disparities.
