International Workers' day warm up at Blindern!

We celebrate the best day of the year with a mini-festival two days prior. The festival is open to all students and staff at UiO, whether you are a member or not. Come and enjoy pastries, meet NTL, and listen to mini-lectures on Palestine, climate, and resistance struggles.

Picture of a protest sign. The sign has information about the event written on it: International Workers' Day warm up. Minilectures | Pastries | Meet NTL Open to all employes and students! Tuesday 29th of April, 11:00–13:30 o’clock.

The best day of the year is just around the corner, and May 1st is an important date for us for two reasons.

  1. We commemorate International Workers' Day by marching with the rest of the trade union movement. This year's main slogan is "Strengthen democracy – crush fascism!", and all members are welcome to join us!
  2. If you are not already a member of a trade union, May 1st is the deadline to sign up if you want to be included in this year's wage negotiations. It pays off to be a member of a trade union, so you should join before the May 1st deadline!

We are warming up for the big day with a mini-festival at Blindern that is open to everyone. Whether you are a member of NTL or not, you are welcome to join us, and bring your colleagues as well!

There will be mini-lectures and serving of pastries and coffee, and union representatives will be available all day to answer questions and talk about the importance of unions.

Programme

11:00 – The festival opens

11:15 – Professor Toufoul Abou-Hodeib: Where is Palestinian Civil Society?

When we hear about Palestinians in the news, it is always in relation to war, conflict, and violence. But civil society in the West Bank and Gaza has a long history of organizing on the grassroots level against Israeli occupation and for the attainment of political rights. Human rights organizations, labor unions, women's organizations, student organizations, and local committees, have for decades challenged the occupation, risking deportation, violence, closure, and arbitrary military detention. Even as the rest of the world is losing hope, their work goes on. Who are they? And what do they want? The lecture will be held in English!

12:00 – Professor David Jordhus-Lier: Hvor ble det av arbeideren i klimakampen?

The lecture will be held in Norwegian. For more information, check the Norwegian version of this page.

12:45 – Stipendiat Ina Lyftingsmo Kristiansen: Kan kollektivet bekjempe diktaturet?

The lecture will be held in Norwegian. For more information, check the Norwegian version of this page.

13:30  The festival closes
