Martha Forsyth is an independent scholar specializing in Bulgarian traditional singing. She has made several research trips to Bulgaria, funded in part by IREX and Fulbright, to "record old ladies singing old songs". Her archive (over 4000 songs) is currently in the process of being transferred to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. She is a founding member of the Boston-based Bulgarian Music Ensemble ZDRAVETS (www.zdravets.com).
